About our Speakers: GBA has compiled an expert line-up of speakers for our Technologies and Products panel discussion. We’re delighted to share perspectives from a variety of fields, and each presenter contributes a great deal to this conversation. Meet our speakers here:

tim-thiel Tim Thiel: Industrial Marketing Manager for Building and Construction, Covestro

Tim Thiel is an Industrial Marketing Manager within the Polyurethane’s Business Unit at Covestro (formerly Bayer MaterialScience). In this role, he is responsible for Industrial Marketing and Business Development in various markets including the Building and Construction Industry.

Tim joined Bayer MaterialScience in 1999 as a cost accountant at the Corporate Headquarters in Pittsburgh, PA. Tim then embarked on a diverse career at Bayer MaterialScience, taking on positions of increasing responsibility in the areas of a ccounting, controlling, marketing and business development.

Throughout his career, Tim has gained extensive experience in driving business strategy, financial and market analysis, as well as energy efficiency in the building and construction industry. He spent four years at the Bayer MaterialScience manufacturing site in Columbus, GA, where he led the marketing efforts for the North American liquid and powder polyester business.

In addition to his daily responsibilities, Tim plays an active role collaborating with the Pittsburgh chapter of the Green Building Alliance. He also serves as a liaison to SPEER (regional energy organization for Texas and Oklahoma) as well as Dallas 2030 and San Antonio 2030.

A native of Pittsburgh, Tim earned his bachelor’s degree in Accounting as well as a master’s of science in Accounting from Robert Morris University.  He also holds a master’s of business administration from the University of Pittsburgh.

greg-puschniggGreg Puschnigg: Chief Executive Officer, BOSS Controls

Greg Puschnigg is the Founder and CEO of BOSS Controls, a commercial IoT company in energy management and controls for buildings. Greg, inventor of the smart plug, has held multiple senior executive positions in leading-edge technology companies including Ciena, AirFiber, Intel and Powercast.  As President of Powercast, he launched the world’s first commercial wireless power product with sales to multinational customers and won Best of Show for new emerging technology at the 2007 Consumer Electronics Show. Before that, Greg launched Intel’s first two generations of Centrino, WiFi that is used around the world daily.  Greg began his career as an engineering officer in the US Navy. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy with a B.S. and received his M.B.A from Loyola College in Maryland, formerly holding TS/SCI clearances.

sandford-2015Todd Sandford: Director of Distributed Energy in North America, Direct Energy

Todd Sandford is the Director of Distributed Energy in North America for Centrica. Todd is responsible for driving Centrica’s growth in non-commodity offerings including distributed energy, energy efficiency, demand response, and data and analytics.
Todd has been with Centrica since 2003, during which time he has held senior roles in customer operations, finance, sales, small business, and energy services. Most of his time has been in North America with Centrica’s Direct Energy business but Todd did spend three years within the UK with Centrica’s British Gas Business (BGB) group. In the UK, Todd ran sales for BGB’s Industrial and Commercial customer segment and oversaw its Energy Services Business.
Prior to joining Direct Energy, Todd held a senior operations role for The NewPower Company (a retail energy company), spent six years as a management consultant with both Arthur Andersen and Stone & Webster, and started his career with Public Service Electric & Gas Company.
Todd earned a BS in Civil Engineering from Lehigh University and an MBA in Finance from Rutgers University.
Todd lives with his wife and two daughters in Pittsburgh, PA.

Azizan is a trained architect with extensive experience in sustainable design, the design of integrated systems for high performance buildings, post occupancy evaluation and building performance monitoring and analytics.  Azizan has initiated innovative data analytics projects with federal, corporate, campus and municipal leaders.  In addition to his more than twenty years in research, Azizan teaches in the undergraduate and graduate programs for the School of Architecture, with an unwavering focus on design for a sustainable built environment.
