Passive House is quickly gaining traction in our region. Would you be interested in Passive House training if it were available?
The Passive House movement is quickly growing locally: our recent day-long Passive House workshop attracted over 100 attendees, Pittsburgh hosted last year’s North American Passive House Conference, and local professionals are designing and building impressive passive buildings right here in our area! We’re excited that this uber-efficient building certification is becoming more popular in our region and want to help prepare local professionals for a potential market shift. Green Building Alliance is teaming up with Passive House Western PA (PHWPA) and Passive House Institute of the US (PHIUS) to offer Passive House training and want to gauge the interest level in such events.
Please review the training descriptions below, then complete the survey at the bottom regarding your interest. Let us know IF you are interested in Passive House training and, if so, WHICH training you would prefer. Thanks for your help!!
Rater Training (January, 2015): PHIUS is seeking experienced HERS raters to become qualified to conduct on-site quality assurance for the PHIUS+ program. This is a two-day course that includes one day of classroom work and one day in the field, concluding with an exam. Participants who successfully complete the course and exam become PHIUS+ Raters and earn 14 RESNET professional development credits. We recommend this training for HERS raters, architects, consulting engineers, property managers, commissioning agents, building inspectors, and QAQC firms.
Builder Training (April or May, 2015): The Passive House Builders Training program prepares construction professionals to meet the unique challenges of passive house. Curriculum includes an introduction to design theory and climate-specific detailing, as well as materials, techniques, project management, and quality assurance. The course offers real-world experience in the on-site implementation of passive house and covers both practical and business concerns. Participants who complete the four-day training and pass the qualifying exam become Certified Builders. We recommend this training for contractors, specialty contractors, developers, property managers, and architects.
CPHP Training (July, 2015): Certified Passive House Consultants (CPHCs) lead the adoption of passive house by designing and building quality-assured PHIUS-Certified Passive House projects. This intensive eight-day course will be conducted by Katrin Klingenberg, executive director of the Passive House Institute of the U.S. You can join the 500+ CPHCs in the country who are trained specifically in North American climate conditions. You’ll learn the principles of passive building design, become familiar with modeling tools, build proficiency in energy modeling skills, study built examples, learn about materials and air tightness strategies, and learn how to assure quality and performance for your clients. Participants who complete the course and pass the accompanying exam can get started on their projects right away! We recommend this training for architects, consulting engineers, property managers, contractors, specialty contractors, developers, PHIUS+ raters, and PHIUS-certified builders.
