We regret to announce that, due to a last-minute scheduling conflict for speaker Jeremy Rifkin, we must cancel our December Inspire Speakers Series lecture. Read on for more details.
At Green Building Alliance, we have been looking forward to welcoming Jeremy Rifkin to Pittsburgh for our Inspire Speakers Series on December 11. He had been scheduled to present with William Generett Jr. from Urban Innovation21. We learned today, however, that Mr. Rifkin is unable to make it to next week’s lecture because he must attend a last-minute but important meeting with the European Commission in Washington, D.C. As we attempted to convey in our promotions for this event, he’s kind of a big deal! This meeting is proof of that and, while we are obviously disappointed that we had to cancel this event, we know that Mr. Rifkin will be engaging in very important work during the course of his time with the European Commission.
Meanwhile, don’ worry – we have lots more inspiration coming your way! We’re working with our co-presenting partners to continue our tradition of innovative, thought-provoking, and entertaining lectures in the coming months! Our spring line-up will feature some amazing national and local speakers, including Charles Montgomery and Will Allen. Here’s a quick preview:
Will Allen is a MacArthur Fellow, urban farmer, former NBA player, and founder and CEO of Growing Power, Inc. – a national non-profit organization and land trust that provides access to healthy, high-quality, safe, and affordable food to people in all communities. Mr. Allen’s holistic farming model is well known throughout the country and he’s seen as a leader in urban agriculture. His lecture will be emceed by Inspire Speakers Series alum Stephen Ritz! You can learn more about Will Allen here. Stay tuned for more details about this lecture and mark your calendars for March 11!
Charles Montgomery is the award-winning author of Happy City: Transforming Our Lives Through Urban Design. He works with urban planners and city builders to find new ways to see and change the world around them. He also created Happy City Lab, which explores the connection between design, well-being, public health, economies, and societal happiness. Learn more about Charles Montgomery here and here. We’ll host a book club for Happy City, so stay tuned for that and mark your calendars for May 14!
Again, we regret the cancellation of our December Inspire Speakers Series, but look forward to inspiring your socks off when the lectures return from their winter break!
