GBA Receives Grant to Assist with Northwest Pennsylvania Energy Efficiency Projects

Green Building Alliance is pleased to receive a $20,000 grant from the Penelec Sustainable Energy Fund of the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies to provide technical assistance and education for organizations in the Northwest Pennsylvania service area of the Pennsylvania Electric Company. This support will help GBA focus on assisting organizations in the region with future energy conservation, efficiency projects, and renewable development activities.

GBA’s Northwest Pennsylvania Branch Director Guy McUmber will manage this two-year Northwest Pennsylvania Energy Efficiency project that will support and ultimately empower municipalities, schools, nonprofits, and other organizations as they work toward conserving energy and resources.  Launched in 2012 (with a grant from Penelec SEF), GBA’s Northwest Pennsylvania branch activities have led to measurable success.

“We are proud of the comprehensive LED lighting retrofit the Benedictine Sisters of Erie accomplished, with the support of the Penelec Sustainable Energy Fund,” said McUmber. “We look forward to continue helping the Sisters turn their values into climate action and to aid other area organizations with their sustainability goals.”

Through this project, GBA will educate organizations about conservation approaches, raise awareness of funding and financing options available to them, assist with establishing baselines and benchmarking, and review RFPs and proposals to help bring projects to fruition. Additionally, GBA will provide technical assistance, one-on-one meetings, and site visits at no cost. GBA’s strategic approach to help organizations is based on planning, conservation, and culture change, tailoring recommendations to the goals, needs, and values of stakeholders.

All these efforts will help GBA and Western Pennsylvania establish a healthier and higher performing region through the local application of high performance design, construction, and operation methods.
