GBA is One of the Best Places to Work in Western Pennsylvania!

Green Building Alliance has once again been honored as one of the Best Places to Work in Western Pennsylvania!  We also received the honor in 2010 and we’re excited to have made the cut once again.  The Pittsburgh Business Times conducts an annual survey of employees in our region about why their company or organization is a great place to work.  Employees in the Pittsburgh area must be pretty satisfied because 114 small, medium, and large companies were recognized in this year’s ranking (based on an employee satisfaction score).

Janel and I attended the Best Places to Work Luncheon, which celebrated all 114 companies in the region that create especially great work environments for their employees.  Since the luncheon was held on Halloween (at the lovely Westin Convention Center Hotel), The Business Times also encouraged attendees to dress up.  While Janel and I opted out (don’t you judge us), there were some fun costumes at the event.  Prizes were given to folks who had the Scariest Costume, Most Original Costume, Funniest Costume, and Best Group Costume.

Following the costume contest and a delicious lunch (my favorite part of any event), Alan Robertson (Publisher of The Pittsburgh Business Times) announced the top 5 rankings in the Small, Medium, and Large company categories for Best Places to Work.

DiNuzzo Index Advisors took home first place in the Small Business category, AND in the overall Best Place to Work category.  Select International was the first place winner in the Medium Business category, and ESB Bank won first place in the Large Business category.  Representatives from these companies – and others we talked to – told us about what makes their work environments so special.  Overwhelmingly, they all said that it was the people that made their companies so great.  We have found the same at GBA!  Other examples of best practices included empowering employees to make decisions and recommendations, allowing for flexible work schedules, and offering good benefits.

Even though we didn’t win any of the Top 5 rankings, we at GBA think we’re pretty great, and I know all our employees are grateful to have a fun, inspiring, healthy workplace where we know we’re also making a big difference in our community.

Congratulations to all the winners of the 2013 Best Places to Work awards – we’re happy to be in your company!
