In 2014, GBA won Dero’s Dream Bike Room contest. After two years of planning and implementation, we unveiled our new “dream bike room” to the public on October 12, 2016, at a Bike Room Bash in partnership with Dero and BikePGH.
The Dero Dream Bike Room contest was a social media competition in which organizations used Pinterest and Twitter to post their way for a chance at winning both funding and bike-related equipment. Technically, GBA had a bike room since we moved into River Walk Corporate Centre; its existence is guaranteed as part of the green lease for our LEED Platinum office space. For many years, however, it was used to store both bikes and many other items.
The transformation of GBA’s bike room from drab to fab was made possible in collaboration with Dero and BikePGH. Dero awarded GBA $8,000 in bike racks and installed tools, plus $1,000 for other necessities we purchased: over 30 lockers, four benches, and two changing areas. PPG Paints also got involved and donated the low-VOC paint used to convert the room from dreary to dreamy.
The room currently features a mix of different Dero Products, including:
- 15 modular Ultra Space-Saver bike racks
- 2 Recycle Racks (96% recycled content)
- 2 Alley Racks (store flat against a wall until needed, then fold out to park two bikes each)
- 1 custom Pittsburgh Skyline Arc Rack
- 2 Lock Docks (to store U-Locks when not in use)
- 1 Fixit Station (with a ton of amazing tools and hanger arms to work on your bike in the room)
- 1 AirKit 3
As last-minute icing on the bike room cake, the new owner of River Walk, McKnight Realty Partners, upgraded the lighting and added a keypad door lock to the bike room door – making the space more accessible to all employees of the 65+ companies in the building.
But don’t take our word for it; visit the bike room the next time you come to see us OR check out these online photo galleries:
