Experience

Green Building Alliance has modified its popular in-person prep course into a virtual offering. This workshop teaches participants the core concepts within the US Green Building Council’s (USGBC) LEED certification program and helps participants effectively navigate both requirements and practical context relating to the LEED BD+C rating system.  Through interactive learning and project examples, participants will build a strong foundation towards successfully passing the LEED v4 Green Associate exam.

The Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) has created the LEED Green Associate credential, which denotes basic knowledge and understanding of green design, construction, and operations.  The LEED Green Associate examination is designed to test general knowledge of green building practices and how to support other professionals working on LEED projects.  The Green Associate credential also serves as the first step for professionals pursuing a LEED AP Specialization.

Value for the Attendee:

  • The LEED Green Associate is designed to be of interest and value for all personnel – accountants to planners and contractors to facility managers – with responsibilities for the success of any green building project.
  • Credentialed staff will feel empowered to oversee and manage consultants who are hired to guide the LEED certification process.
  • If you are trying to determine if this course is right for you, feel free to reach out to us with your questions and we can help you determine the best fit for your needs.

Format and Schedule:

This course is typically hosted in-person throughout an entire day. During these times of social distancing, we are re-formatting the course to be offered virtually. Because there is so much content to cover, we have split the course into two half-day sessions. The course is divided into LEED credit categories, which address different impact areas of the built environment.

The course includes lecture content but will also encourage student participation through either large group or break-out discussions.

Day 1: 9:00 – 12:30

  • Introductions and Zoom Housekeeping
  • Basic Questions about Preview Material
  • LEED Credit Categories:
    • Integrative Process
    • Location & Transportation
    • Sustainable Sites
    • Water Efficiency
    • Closing Questions and Reflections

Day 2: 9:00 – 12:30

  • Review from Day 1
  • LEED Credit Categories:
    • Energy & Atmosphere
    • Materials & Resources
    • Indoor Environmental Quality
    • Innovation & Regional Priority
    • Closing Questions and Reflections

Expectations:

In order to reduce the amount of virtual lecture time, your instructor will send preview materials in advance. This will ensure that all students have a basic understanding of how the LEED rating system is designed as well as key terms and definitions. This way, all students are starting near the same baseline.

It should also be noted that this course is designed to lay a successful foundation for your preparation for the exam. Additional self-guided studying is necessary and the instructor will provide study resources as well as suggestions for other successful study strategies.

In order to have time to review the preview materials in advance of the class, students must register by September 25.

Registered participants will receive Zoom meeting details in advance.
