About This Event

When a new building or development is completed, who benefits? How do we determine what and where to build, and who gets a say in the process? With several neighborhoods in Pittsburgh on the cusp of major development, built environment practitioners must learn to collaborate with diverse and historically disadvantaged communities.   

This event – the second in our series on Social Equity in the Built Environment – will explore the importance of engaging stakeholders in a meaningful way along with tools to use in practice. We’ll explore common barriers to stakeholder engagement, local and national case studies, and gain insights from some local community members. 

This event includes networking as well as refreshments. If you are working on a limited budget, please contact Leslie Montgomery for scholarship opportunities. 

Learning Objectives: 

  1. Participants will learn best practices for effective stakeholder engagement 
  2. Participants will identify how stakeholder engagement relates to social equity and equitable development 
  3. Participants will become familiar with frameworks that enable equitable development 
  4. Participants will understand the importance of creating sustainable spaces where everyone can thrive. 

 

Social Equity in the Built Environment Series

GBA’s series on Social Equity in the Built Environment will equip participants with the awareness, mindset and tools to embed equity into their processes, projects and outcomes. The series will explore historical context and neighborhood trends shaping Pittsburgh’s equitable transformation. 

You can choose to attend one event in the series, or dive deeper into the topic by attending all four events. Members of GBA have the opportunity to purchase the entire series at a significant discount.

Partnering with USGBC and AIA, GBA makes it easy for our members to report continuing education credits.
