April 8, 2020 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm EDTFree – $15.00
Passive House: An Inside Look
Passive House optimizes light, air, and thermal energy of a building, reducing energy use by as much as 75%. Careful planning and execution is required to meet rigorous energy and performance standards, but pays off with unparalleled comfort and very low energy consumption. GBA and Passive House Western PA invite you to tour an example right here in Pittsburgh!
Lucy de Barbaro and Ayres Freitas, the owners of the Squirrel Hill Passive House, will open their home to share their goals for the project, material selection, passive strategies, victories, and challenges. They will also present details on energy performance of their home based on 2 years of data. Average monthly use of electricity, including cooling and heating averaged over 2 years was 394 kWh/month. The house met its Passive House design characteristics and surpassed predictions from HERS/Resnet modeling (37.9 MBTu/year) by 55%.
Experts from Passive House Western PA will share their knowledge in the comfort of this Passive House and will provide in-depth answers to technical questions. GBA will provide drinks and appetizers as we tour the house, along with other green features including the green roof, permeable pavement, and a rainwater catchment system.
