The Midwife Center has cared for thousands of clients and their families since 1982, and offers services that include pregnancy and childbirth, primary gynecological, behavioral health and wellness, community education, and more. The center’s home-like environment offers a safe and comfortable space for mothers in our region to give birth.
The center recently completed a capital campaign to expand both its program offerings and its physical space. The campaign involved renovating the center’s existing space as well as building an addition, making it the largest freestanding birth center in the nation. A permeable pavement parking lot, classroom, new birth suites with birthing tubs, and an elevator (to increase accessibility) were all part of the expansion, which was completed in 2017.
LEED certification was identified as a goal of the addition project, as a healthy and high-performing space aligns with the Midwife Center’s broader commitment to providing long-term health care for individuals and their families. The project received LEED Silver Certification with credits that recognize features such as improved indoor air quality during and after construction, green infrastructure and native landscaping, and addressing the challenges and opportunities of its urban site. This tour will feature both owner insights and project team insights. Midwife Center executive director Christine Haas will provide an overview of the center and the expansion, as well as the organization’s decision to pursue LEED certification. We’ll get the project team perspective from a representative at Rothschild Doyno Collaborative.
Coffee and light breakfast will be provided on this tour.
8:30 a.m.-8:45 a.m. – Overview of the project
8:45 a.m.-10:00 a.m. – Expert guided tour by Christine Haas, Tara Earnest, and Brenna Shaffer
