The Innovation Station: New Building Solutions Being Brought to Life in Pittsburgh
August 17 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm EST
Meet two local start-ups focusing on smart building design and operations: Module and HiberSense. Learn about their journeys from concept to reality and get a look at the resources and community that have nurtured them along the way, including Pittsburgh’s own Innovation Works. Find out what makes this region a special place for new ideas to come to life! And as added bonus: we’ll get to explore the Module Demo Unit, which is outfitted with HiberSense technology!
Pittsburgh is home to some incredible resources for innovative minds who want to solve today’s challenges in the built environment. From our higher education community and foundations to a variety of world class incubators and co-working spaces, this region is ripe for problem-solvers and pioneers! At this event, we’ll gain insights from the following members of Pittsburgh’s start-up community:
- Brian Gaudio is CEO at Module – a smart, affordable housing solution for urbanites that makes homeownership attainable via an incremental model. Perfect for first-time homebuyers, Module allows you to start with a small home, and then add on to it with custom, pre-fab additions as your family and income grow. Gaudio and his team use sustainable building materials wherever possible, and Module has been supported locally by Idea Foundry, Carnegie Mellon University, Innovation Works, and AlphaLab Gear.
- Daniel Mosse is Co-Founder & Technologist at HiberSense – a network of affordable smart thermostats that can adjust the climate individually in every room in your home, increasing both comfort and saving around 30% of your HVAC energy at the same time. The system stops unoccupied spaces from being heated or cooled, and can learn your schedule and preferences over time, making each room the right temperature. It’s about the people, not about the buildings! HiberSense has been supported by University of Pittsburgh, UpPrize, The Forbes Funds, Landis Homes, and Innovation Works.
- Jeffrey McDaniel is Executive in Residence at Innovation Works, where he advises the management teams of start-up, clean manufacturing and technology companies. As the largest investor in seed-stage companies in Pittsburgh, Innovation Works invests capital, business expertise and other resources into high-potential companies with the greatest likelihood for regional economic impact.
This event includes light food and drinks. Following presentations from these speakers, we’ll take a look at the Module Demo Unit, which is outfitted with HiberSense technology.
