Description

There is no shortage of news about the risk of lead in drinking water in communities throughout the country. Radon, although not as widely discussed, is another very potent hazard. Here’s what the two have in common:

  • They both can cause significant long-term harm to children’s health, well-being and ability to learn
  • They are both prevalent and mostly unaddressed in schools and daycare centers across Western Pennsylvania
  • They can both be solved with a little knowledge, diligence, and relatively limited financial resources

It is time for us to move beyond discussing whether these hazards are affecting our children, and to focus on eliminating these hazards in schools and child care centers as quickly as possible.

Join us to learn background on lead and radon, and understand in detail the process for testing and mitigation correctly and effectively. You will also learn about mini-grants available to assist in the costs of testing and mitigation of both lead and radon.

Lunch will be provided, courtesy of A.W. Beattie Career Center’s Culinary Arts Program.
