Member-Only Hard Hat Tour: Carnegie Science Center Expansion
April 30 @ 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm EDTFree
Rendering of PPG SCIENCE PAVILION™ at Carnegie Science Center
Members of Green Building Alliance and the Master Builders’ Association of Western Pennsylvania are invited to a behind-the-scenes look at the PPG Science Pavilion, currently under construction at the Carnegie Science Center. Targeted for LEED Silver certification upon completion, this new addition of one of Pittsburgh’s most beloved cultural gems will feature sun-soaked STEM learning labs, a traveling exhibition space, stormwater catchment, a sustainable education kiosk, and solar array. Project team representatives from Oxford Development Company and Turner Construction will lead participants on a hard-hat tour of the expansion space, highlighting significant and sustainable features along the way.
- Learn about the mission of the Carnegie Science Center and gain insight into the role of the organization’s physical space in serving this mission. Hear why the owners and project teams wanted a healthy, high-performing building that was connected to the surrounding community.
- Understand how different design features of the new Pavilion will control stormwater runoff in the post-developed condition, meeting the criteria for the Stormwater Design-Quantity Control (SSc6.1) credit under LEED-NC v2009.
- Gain insight into the project’s energy goals and its pursuit of the Optimize Energy Performance (EAc1) and On-Site Renewable Energy (EAc2) credits under LEED-NC v2009.
- Explore the various fixtures, fittings, and policies that lessen the Science Center’s water use and have earned the Water Use Reduction (WEc3) credit under LEED-NC v2009.
