GRID Institute Tour at the Energy Innovation Center
March 29 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm EDT
Green Building Alliance invites you to tour an incredible lab that is home to groundbreaking research in energy and sustainability: the University of Pittsburgh’s GRID Institute at the Energy Innovation Center!
More than 100 years ago, life-changing innovations in power generation were developed in Pittsburgh as George Westinghouse developed the alternating current for light and power. Now a century later – as our power systems face major challenges and new opportunities – research and development in Pittsburgh is once again central to the next wave of energy modernization. Under the leadership of Dr. Gregory Reed, the University of Pittsburgh recently launched the Energy Grid Research and Infrastructure Development (GRID) Institute, a research and incubator space that is addressing critical issues in our energy infrastructure like renewable technology integration, energy storage, and resilient energy systems.
On our tour of this space, we’ll explore and learn about three specific laboratories: the Energy Power Technologies Lab, the Next Generation Energy Conversion and Storage Technologies Lab, and the High-Temperature Corrosion Testing Lab. We’ll also learn about the goals and strategic partnerships of the GRID Institute by Dr. Gregory Reed and Dr. Katrina Kelly-Pitou, and we’ll gain insight into its home at the Energy Innovation Center.
This tour will also include refreshments and networking, as well as a mini tour of the Energy Innovation Center with Dr. Reed for anyone who would like to see some highlights of the building.
5:00 – 5:30 – Arrival and Opening Remarks from Dr. Gregory Reed and Dr. Katrina Kelly-Pitou
5:30 – 6:30 – Rotating tours of the three laboratories
6:30 – 7:00 – Refreshments and Networking
