Green Infrastructure Performance Monitoring Toolbox
January 13, 2016 @ 12:00 pm - 2:30 pm ESTFree
A Workshop with Colin Campbell of Decagon Devices and John Buck of Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc.
Colin Campbell, of Decagon Devices, Inc. and John Buck of Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. will present a workshop on green infrastructure and natural landscape stormwater performance monitoring approaches at Phipps Conservatory’s Botany Hall. The tools and technique discussion will provide approaches to better pre-design site characterization for infiltration-based BMPs, quantification of the ecological services provided by natural landscapes for stormwater management, and approaches to quantify the post-construction performance of BMPs.
Colin Campbell will discuss approaches to evaluate soil water infiltration rates, monitor the water balance of landscapes, infiltration-based green infrastructure (GI) stormwater management systems, and weather monitoring. Topics will include infiltrometers for site characterization, and continuous monitoring with water depth/temperature/salinity sensors, soil moisture/temperature/salinity sensors, soil water potential sensors, and data logger and data telemetry options. John Buck will discuss the application of these methods at the Phipps CSL green roof, Phipps rain gardens, and a natural soil profile within the Phipps Outdoor Garden. Mr. Buck will also discuss recent monitoring of the performance of a porous paving retrofit at another location.
The presentation will include some hands-on learning activities, and will conclude with a tour of monitored GI systems at the Phipps Center for Sustainable Landscapes.
Attendance certificates will be issued for Professional Development Hours (PDHs).
RSVP – A boxed lunch will be provided to those who RSVP by Noon, January 11. Please RSVP to Sue Nagel at firstname.lastname@example.org (412-429-2324, ext. 1125).
