Downtown Lunch and Learn: Pursuing the WELL Building Standard
October 31 @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm EST
Join GBA at IKM Inc. offices for a Lunch and Learn featuring insights into the WELL building standard from WELL faculty, Pete Jefferson.
The WELL Building Standard has just crossed the 100 million SF threshold for project registration. As a performance-based standard, WELL includes requirements that the project actually operates in accordance with the standard in order to achieve certification. What many teams are discovering in the process of pursuing WELL is that the evolution from prescriptive standards, like LEED, to performance standards like WELL, introduces a new paradigm into the design process. “How will my building perform?” and “what happens if it doesn’t?” are questions that have to be analyzed in the design process.
Pete Jefferson (Forte Building Science) will share strategies that his team is using on WELL projects to achieve the performance requirements, particularly in the areas of Air, Water, Light and Comfort. Projects that will serve as case studies include existing commercial interiors, a new middle school, speculative offices, and a historic building renovation.
This event is part of a special Road to Greenbuild initiative of the US Green Building Council, as a way to build awareness and momentum for the Greenbuild Expo in Boston from November 8-10. One participant from this Lunch & Learn will win a complementary 3-day pass to Greenbuild! The winner will be notified by November 1. Room and board are not included.
Green Building Alliance is hosting a series of Lunch & Learn events at the IKM offices, to make these education opportunities more accessible for the downtown crowd! Pop over to IKM’s beautiful LEED-certified space over lunch… and learn something new about green building trends at the same time!
