2021 Emerald Evening Gala

September 9 @ 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Details and Directions for Emerald Evening

If you are registered for Emerald Evening but for some reason did not receive a reminder email with all the details, please see all the necessary information below:

Basic Event Details:

  • Emerald Evening Gala
  • Thursday, September 9 from 6:00 – 10:00 p.m.
  • Hosted outdoors at the Roundhouse at Hazelwood Green (Masking is required indoors)
  • Dinner, drinks, networking, music, awards celebration
    • Dinner will be provided by Kimberly Ashlee Catering, Veggies n’At, and Scratch & Company

COVID Protocols:

  • Pre-event COVID Screening: All guests must complete this COVID screening survey. Please complete the survey prior to the event for the smoothest registration process
    • If you have not completed the survey in advance, you will be asked to complete it at registration
    • As always, please stay home if you have had any known exposures to COVID-19 (unless you have tested negative) or if you have been experiencing any symptoms
      • Anyone who needs to cancel for this reason will receive a full refund and can tune into the live stream of the awards ceremony
    • The GBA team will pull survey results in the early afternoon so if you have not completed a survey by then, you will need to complete one at registration. But please do this online in advance to ensure a smooth registration process!
  • Masks Required Inside: If you are indoors at any time, masks will be required so please bring one with you
    • Anyone is welcome to wear masks outside if they wish
  • Social Distancing Cues: As we know our guests have varying levels of comfort and risk factors, we will work to facilitate a positive and comfortable experience for everyone through the use of color-coded stickers on our name tags:
    • Red sticker means “please give me space and grace”
    • Yellow sticker means you are open to hand shakes
    • Green sticker means you are comfortable with hugs and closer networking
      • If you are not vaccinated, please consider using a red name tag sticker and/or staying masked throughout the event
  • Hand Sanitizer: Will be readily available

What to Expect:

  • Our Outdoor Venue: As we continue to approach our events in a COVID-conscious manner, we feel it best to keep the majority of our event outside. With its incredibly unique history, views of the river and downtown, and setting on Hazelwood Green, we think the Roundhouse makes a very special outdoor venue indeed! But an outdoor venue can also offer surprises!
    • In case of rain: This event will be hosted rain or shine. And while we want you to show off your Emerald Evening best (see below), please also dress for the weather. We’ll have some coverage in case of rain, but please come prepared and bring an umbrella if you think it will be necessary.
    • In case of heat: We will have some indoor space available for folks who need to escape the heat if it’s an especially hot evening (as of now, the temperature looks perfect!). The kitchen will be reserved for folks who need to sit in the air conditioning for a bit and we will have staff monitoring this area. Masks will be required here, and no food will be permitted. Just like you would on a bus, please be sure those who really need this space have first dibs, as numbers will be limited. Thank you!
  • Our Awards Ceremony: We are so excited to celebrate some very special people and projects with you! Our ceremony will take place outside, under the large tent. There will be some seating and space under the tent, and it should be visible from multiple areas. We will also stream the ceremony to another screen for those who wish to watch from another spot on the grounds.
  • Attire: This is a great night to show off your business or formal wear. And we love how some of you always come in your shades of green! However, some notes:
    • If you are riding your bike or taking public transit to the event, we respect your choice for comfort! You may also use the restrooms to freshen up/change if needed.
      • But we welcome you all to come as you are!
    • In terms of shoe choices – remember that Hazelwood Green is a large site, so it could be a bit of a walk from your car to the venue depending on where you park.
      • In fact, if you are attending the event with a guest who is wearing heels, you might consider dropping them off at the driveway to the Roundhouse before parking your car,

Location & Parking Details:

The site is accessible by a variety of transit options and has been designed with complete streets. If you use transit, you could end up walking a bit, but your walk is likely to include a great view of the river and further exploration of the site. The attachments and list below will provide additional details. Just remember that Hazelwood Green is a large site, so plan accordingly!

  • By Car:
    • Enter “One Valley” or “4170 Second Avenue” into your GPS
    • If coming on Second Avenue from downtown, your GPS should direct you to turn right onto Blair Street from Second Avenue, just after the Hot Metal Bridge – then you would follow it along the river until you see the Roundhouse on your left
    • You may refer to the attached maps and notes about directions
    • Alternately, you may come from the other side of the Hazelwood Green site, and would take Irvine Street to Hazelwood Avenue. Once on Hazelwood Avenue, follow the site around on either Blair or Lytle Street, past Mill 19 (the huge building covered in solar panels) and go under an overpass, until you come to the Roundhouse on your right
    • Some free street parking is available Hazelwood Green and otherwise, paid parking is available in one of the lots on the site
    • Note that Hazelwood Green is very large so be sure to find the Roundhouse building before you park, or you could end up with a long walk
    • In general, the driveway up to the building will be closed – however we are working to keep 3 handicapped parking spaces open just inside the driveway for those who may need it
  • By Bike:
    • The Hazelwood Trail goes through Hazelwood Green and can be accessed from:
      • The corner of Second Avenue and the Hot Metal Bridge (and from the Eliza Furnace Trail via a ramp at the opposite corner of the Hot Metal Bridge)
      • Tecumesh Street at Gloster Street
      • By Blair Street and Second Avenue
  • By Transit:
    • The 56, 57 and 58 buses stop within about a 5-15 minute walk from the site
      • Greenfield Ave at Irvine Street
      • The 57 stops at Blair St Opp Street C
    • Map out your route first, to be sure you know how far the walk will be from the bus stop to the building itself (not just the Hazelwood Green site)
