Relationship & Development Director
Ryan is responsible for the growth and implementation of GBA’s many stakeholder relationships, including members, sponsors, and partners. He also provides direct support for all aspects of GBA’s development efforts, including relationship-building and tracking of membership, sponsorship, individual giving, and funders. Ryan engages with stakeholders to provide maximum benefit to donors and assists with education, events, and outreach.
Ryan has a background in nonprofit administration, teaching, and writing. Prior to joining GBA, he worked at Vermont Studio Center directing the creative writing residency program and the organization’s fundraising efforts. He strengthened offerings for artists and writers from around the world, grew VSC’s Vermont Fresh Network Farm & Chef Partnership, and built a national Creative Access consortium of residency opportunities for artists with disabilities. Ryan has also taught a range of writing and literature courses at Albion College, University of Michigan, and University of Wisconsin (where he received the Richard Knowles Teaching Award). He is passionate about bicycles and gardens as powerful tools for building sustainable communities and serves on the alumni board of Warren Wilson College.
Ryan holds a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Bachelor of Arts in Integrative Studies from Warren Wilson College in Asheville, NC, where he first learned about green building.
