Ryan Walsh

Relationship & Development Senior Director

Ryan is responsible for the growth and care of GBA’s many stakeholder relationships, including those with members, sponsors, funders, and community partners.  He also provides strategic direction for all aspects of GBA’s development efforts, including  membership, sponsorships, individual giving, and grant funding. Ryan enjoys engaging with the GBA community to provide maximum benefit to all.

Accomplishments

Ryan has an extensive background in fundraising, nonprofit administration, creative writing, storytelling, and teaching in higher ed. Prior to joining GBA, he worked at Vermont Studio Center directing both the creative writing residencies program and VSC’s fundraising efforts. There he strengthened and grew diverse fellowship offerings for artists and writers from around the world, bolstered the organization’s Vermont Fresh Network Farm & Chef Partnership, and launched a national Creative Access Consortium of residency opportunities for artists with disabilities. He has also taught a range of writing and literature courses at the University of Michigan, Albion College, the University of Wisconsin, and the Champlain College Young Writers’ Conference. He is the is author of the poetry collection Reckonings, and his writing has appeared in several literary journals, including Ecotone, FIELD, Green Mountains Review, and Narrative. Ryan is passionate about bicycles and gardens as powerful tools for building sustainable communities.

Education

Ryan holds a M.F.A. in Creative Writing from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a B.A. in Integrative Studies from Warren Wilson College in Asheville, NC, where he first learned about green buildings by participating in a student committee that helped design the college’s LEED Platinum EcoDorm.
