Green & Healthy Schools Senior Director
Katie Lockley works with educational professionals ranging from superintendents, teachers, and facilities managers to create healthy communities of learning. Katie believes that all students deserve the right to learn in a healthy and high-performing school. She also maintains that it is possible that all school personnel can implement sustainable measures in their current role and that schools have the perfect opportunity to create meaningful and lasting change in the sustainability sector.
Before coming to GBA, Katie spent the last six years as the Facilities and Sustainability Director of the Environmental Charter School (ECS), where she successfully integrated aspirational health and sustainability goals throughout building and maintenance projects. Her work led to the development of a facilities-wide green cleaning program, in addition to the creation of measurable targets for the building portfolio’s design and operations. She also collaborated closely with educators to support curricular support and student engagement initiatives. Katie began her career as a high school English teacher at the LEED Gold A.W. Beattie Career Center, where she implemented several green initiatives and wrote the award winning Green Ribbon School application. Engaged in national school reform efforts, Katie has spoken at many green school conferences, in addition to attending the School Sustainability Leadership summit.
Katie hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education from Edinboro University. She also maintains several professional certifications including WELL AP.
