Guy McUmber

Northwest Branch Director

Guy took on the role of Northwest Branch Director in December of 2014. He works to further GBA’s mission and grow its presence in Erie and surrounding counties by planning and promoting events that increase awareness of green building principles, practices, techniques, and implementation methods.

Many know Guy through his 32 years of service with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. He is particularly proud of helping to successfully implement Act 101, one of the country’s first recycling laws. This included assisting in the development of award-winning programs in Erie City, Millcreek and Cranberry Townships, and Allegheny College. As the Commonwealth’s first sustainability coordinator, Guy also supported many regional organizations in their development of various greening programs. After helping establish GBA’s Northwest branch, he received the organization’s Shades of Green Leadership award in 2008. He also served as a school sustainability advisor during the Green & Healthy Schools Academy’s inaugural term and was given the program’s “Diploma of Inspiration” in 2014. He has been active in his hometown of Meadville in various ways over the years and presently sits on the board of the Crawford County Coalition for Housing Needs. Guy considers his greatest accomplishments, however, to being a husband to Lynn; father to Sam, Abby, and Louie; and grandpa to Georgianna.

Guy earned a Bachelor of Science in Geology from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania.  He also holds a Certified Green Classroom Professional Certificate from the U.S. Green Building Council.
