Mike Kane

As president and executive director of the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies in Johnstown, PA (within GBA’s Laurel Highlands branch area), Mike oversees the foundation’s operations, including administration, programming, grantmaking, development, finance, and strategic implementation. Program responsibilities include management of the Penelec Sustainable Energy Fund, chairing the Foundation for Pennsylvania Watersheds, and board participation in FracTracker Alliance. While with CFA, Mike has grown assets from $13 million to $58 million, raised a total of $86 million, grown the number of funds from 147 to 440, directly overseen the distribution of $33 million into the community, opened two foundation branches, and implemented community-wide initiatives.

His previous diverse positions include planned giving and major gifts officer for Conemaugh Health Foundation, manager of new business development and research for WJAC-TV (Johnstown’s NBC affiliate), partner and sales manager at Benshoff Printing Company, English master and athletic coach at Kiskiminetas Springs School, and adjunct faculty at Emerson College in Boston. Mike holds a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Pittsburgh, a master of arts from Emerson College, and certificates in major gifts and planned giving and fundraising fundamentals from the Institute for Healthcare Philanthropy at the University of Wisconsin Graduate School of Business. Mike is a founding member of the Stonycreek-Quemahoning Initiative, Lift Johnstown, and Greater Prospect Cooperative. He has served on many boards and committees, including Grantmakers of Western Pennsylvania, Goodwill Industries of the Conemaugh Valley, Pennsylvania Highlands Community College, Greater Johnstown Regional Partnership, Conemaugh Valley Conservancy, and Johnstown Area Regional Industries.
